Today I happened to see Kile’s World Foundation 5K Run/Walk event posted on Beyonce’s website so I reached out to my friend and previous client Tameka Raymond to congratulate her on this well deserved push that I know she needs for her foundation. As I thought about this incredible fete and her commitment to advancing her son’s legacy, I realized I owed her an apology. I have not exercised my voice to assist her in spreading the word about this precious work. You see, I’ve always supported her effort with a financial contribution but I never fathomed my reach could be wide enough or significant enough to propel her cause forward and it took seeing the post from a global icon like Beyonce to remind me that we all can do our part to advance a cause, allow our light to shine in a world so full of darkness and to help our sisters do the same.
Kile’s World is a non-profit organization started by Kile Glover’s mother Tameka Raymond to help underprivileged kids get better access to the arts. A gift to Kile’s World Foundation does more than finance a camper’s tuition. It makes dreams come true for a child who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to cultivate their artistic talents. Tameka lost Kile following a tragic boating accident in July of 2012. Kile was an exceptionally bright child who was always engulfed in an artistic musical project when I saw him. I too miss his presence.
